This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
AshtonKirk Criminologist John Thomas McIntyre Books
This is a good mystery about a man who was killed in a house with what was to be discovered soon after, a candlestick found hidden outside the house. There are several suspects with a few side trails to confuse the reader. Ashton-Kirk and Scanlon investigate the case to find who the actual murderer was. This was a good story and I recommend it. I had never read anything by McIntyre, and I will look for more of his books.Product details

AshtonKirk Criminologist John Thomas McIntyre Books Reviews
This novel predates Agatha Christie but is a more believable tale, by an author who understood how crimes happen and how they should be investigated --without jumping to the first possible conclusion. An enjoyable and satisfactory read.
Riveting mystery, extremely well written. Could not put it down. Story line is unique. Protagonist is s charming and captivating story teller.
I had never read this author before and I was surprised by his ability to keep me generally engaged. Not a great ending but some good twists and turns during the journey. Impressed enough to read the second in the series.
Made a plausible case for each one of four different people to be the killer. But the ending was a surprise. Ashton-Kirk held steady through all the appearances.
